How to keep ants out of your home

Ants can be a huge pest in any home, particularly in the warmer months. This is partially due to the warmth encouraging them out of their nests and to breed more than in the colder months. It can also be due to the availability of food. We’ve rounded up a few tips and tricks to deter ants from your home, however none of these will be as effective as getting a licensed service from the team at Asset Pest Management.

1. Remove any foods or substances that can be tempting to ants

Have you ever spilt some juice or crumbs and later found a trail of ants basking in the glory of your mess? It does not take very long for ants to find any leftover morsels, especially if they are already nesting nearby. Make sure to thoroughly clean any surfaces with anti-bacterial spray after preparing any food.

2. Keep areas dry

The other reason ants will venture into your home is in search of water. You will often find ants congregating around kitchen sinks. To avoid this, make sure you don’t leave any puddles of water around your kitchen sink.

3. Break the chain

Did you ever watch Disney’s “A Bug’s Life”? Well if you did, you may remember the scene where a leaf falls in front of an ant carrying food, breaking the chain formation path they were in. Ants actually leave a chemical trail when they find food or water, helping them to follow the path they took and to lead others. You can break this chain by using solutions that deter ants. Ants have a dislike of anything acidic, so a solution of water with either vinegar or lemon works as a good deterrent.

They also dislike chalky textures, so another good solution is the place chalk or baby powder around the areas you commonly find the ants.
